Earning passive income is one of the easiest ways to get your blog monetized. You can also monetize your social media platforms using this method. My first blog dollars ever made came from affiliate sales.

Some bloggers earn $500 with their efforts while others earn up to $22,000.00 and more from affiliate sales alone.

What is an affiliate program and how does it work?

An affiliate program is a network or stand alone program for influencers and bloggers to partner with brands and companies to promote their products in exchange for a commission. Bloggers earn a commission if the product is purchased through their links. A tracking ID is assigned to their links so the brand or company can keep up with purchases made through the links they promote.

Affiliate Marketing

I hope this post inspires you to create a good affiliate sales strategy so you can monetize your blog with some passive income. I’m going to share with you some methods and programs that have worked for me as well as other successful bloggers I know.

This post may contain affiliate links and any purchase made through such links will award me a small commission, at no extra cost for you.

Before we dive into learning about the best affiliate networks and programs for bloggers, I want to share a few important tips to get you headed in the right direction.

If you have not already done so, your first step is to start your own blog and have it up and running.

Affiliate networks accept bloggers much faster when they have their very own platforms “blog” which is already established with at least 15 preferably 30 blog posts.

If you don’t know how to get started, check out my post on how to start a blog here where I detail the steps to get you going. If you’re confused on what to do to start writing awesome posts, check out how to write your first post HERE.

Now that you have your blog operational and several post to get you started, its time to start thinking about the programs that are right for you and your niche.

  • Think about and write down products and brands that you plan to review and/or mention on your blog. These need to be ones you feel good about and don’t mind recommending to others.
  • Choose a few relevant products, services or shops and mention them in your blog posts as they relate to your posts and niche. It’s important you continue to promote them throughout your posts and let your readers know these are products you know and recommend.
  • Only join affiliate networks and programs as they relate to your niche. Only recommend products ad they relate to your niche (the subject of your blog). If your blog is about travel, the products you recommend should be travel related products.
  • Affiliate marketing is not an ad display. You can’t share banners here and there throughout your blog and expect to get sales. You have to create a story around affiliate products or at least share your experience with the products and why you recommend them. Create content around those products and services.
  • Be sure to disclose! The FTC requires bloggers to add disclosures to the posts and pages where they share affiliate links.

5 Highest Paying Affiliate Programs For Bloggers

There are many affiliate programs to choose from. You’ll probably participate in several throughout your blogger career. Right now, I recommend choosing networks that have products related to what your blog is about.

There are networks you can join. Networks act as a middle man connecting you (the blogger) to all sorts of brands, services and products. It’s faster to find programs to join and networks make it easier to access your programs in a centralized location.

There are also stand alone programs where you can sign up to promote particular shops and brands.

Commission from sales of physical affiliate products generally earn bloggers between 3% to 14% of sales while digital products can earn you a commissions from 20% to possibly 60%.

Affiliate networks I name in this post are the most popular (AWIN, ShareASale and Amazons Associates), but there are others that deserve to be mentioned. They are Impact Radius, Flex Offers, Commission Junkie and Ratuken Linkshare. I recommend joining these networks only if you find specific products and brands that you want to promote so you don’t get overwhelmed.

How long will it take to make money as an Affiliate?

This depends on several factors: your audience size and the strategy you take. It also makes a difference how you promote your affiliate links.

As a newbie blogger, it can take months to make your first few hundred dollars in sales. After a year or two some bloggers have made $45,000 plus. Otheres have made more or less. There is no one size fits all but there is loads of potential.

I am hopeful that this post will guide you in the right direction. I know you are ready to start earning affiliate income from your blog. It truly is a great way to earn money while you sleep. The more passive income opportunities you add to your blogging venture, the more your blog will scale as a powerhouse blog.
